What is Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy is used to treat both men and women when their hormones drop or become unbalanced. They are manmade hormones coming from plant estorgens that are chemically identical to the ones present in the human body.

Medical professional holding blocks that read hormone balance

Here at Gandolph Health Care we offer Bio-identical Hormone testing and treatment. For over 10 years Marilyn has been treating both men and women in this area of medicine. Looking at each of you as individuals and taking a complete history of your complaints will help Marilyn determine what is the best plan for treatment. Many people think taking hormone replacement is the answer to their symptoms. All though this can be true, there are times when your thyroid or your adrenal glands play a part in your symptoms. Looking at all these areas gives her a complete picture of what is going on. This helps Gandolph Health Care make the right choices when determining the correct medical plan of treatment.

Women & Hormones

Standard western medicine approaches hormones as a one size fits all. This approach does not work well for many reasons. The hormone replacement drug called Premarin, used by western medicine is a very popular medication for post-menopausal women. The problem is it contains 14 different estrogens derived from horse urine where as our body only makes 3 types of estrogen. Many patients will require the addition of progesterone, testosterone, and DHEA which is not a component of Premarin. In addition, there is a higher incident of breast cancer in women taking Premarin. In short, many of the traditional hormone therapies prescribed to women are not as effective or safe as bio-identical hormone therapy, which more effectively recreates your natural hormones and doses them according to your specific body’s needs.

Men & Testosterone

With regards to men struggling with low testosterone, many western medical providers suggest men inject themselves with a standard dosing of testosterone on a weekly schedule or a monthly visit to their medical provider. This inconvenience can be eliminated. Once you have had your labs evaluated bio-identical hormones can be customized per individual needs and bio-identical testosterone can be administered orally or topically eliminating countless doctors’ appointments and needle sticks.
